Yoga Poses For Weight Loss

There has been a growing trend of people being cautious of their waistlines, the number of calories they consume, and their weight. It has partly led to the growing cases of weight- and lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and heart problems. Prioritizing our health has become crucial. 

Yoga, an ancient form of exercise that has been around for more than 5,000 years, can be a solution to such problems. The misconception that yoga is only meant for fit, thinly looking people is not true, and one will be able to get its benefits irrespective of his/her weight. 

Asana is one of the core practices of yoga, which involves holding a posture for a short duration of time. It can be very helpful in burning calories. Below are three basic postures that can be practiced by people who want to lose weight:

1. Ardha Navasana

This pose is also called the half boat pose. Holding this pose for a couple of minutes has tremendous effects on our bodies. The pause works on our tummies, strengthening our abdominal muscles. It has an instant impact and can lead to burning of calories around the abdominal area if practiced for a long time. It also contributes to a massive weight loss when practiced regularly.

2. Vasisthasana

This pose is also called the side plank. It is beneficial when it comes to developing one’s core strength. Holding the position for a few minutes has some tingling sensation on your biceps and triceps. If held for long, it can burn a lot of calories, thereby aiding in losing weight.

3. Chatarunga Dandasana

It is also known as the low plank pose. It is very useful in developing the entire body muscles. One can burn leg, bicep, tricep, and abdominal calories with this simple pose.

In addition to the above poses, one can also practice Bikram yoga, which is dedicated entirely for weight loss. All these poses, if practiced with discipline, can have the desired effect on our body and in our journey to a perfect body.
